Think Camp

This past weekend, Match and Taps went to "Think Camp", which is an un-conference put on by the Ontario Camp Leadership Workshop.  Match, Topaz and Zoic all sit on the OCLW committee, and Think Camp definitely lived up to its potential.

Match and Taps both spoke at the conference, and both presentation went very well.  Match spoke about how to equip staff members for success when they are away from camp.  Taps spoke about how camp can prepare kids for their future by making them believe in their future.

Think Camp was a great gathering of camp professionals and very inspiring.

Great Camp Dad

We are so pleased to thank Gregg Whitty for all of the work he has put into restoring one of the old Glen Mhor cedar-strip canoes.  It has been a year and half long project and the canoe is beautiful!
What a great gift to camp - a newly mint condition Peterborough Canoe.

A Lack of Pictures

Our apologies for people who keep clicking back and looking for pictures from camp for the last couple of week (especially for the kids from last week's IO #1, Jr. Co-ed and Music & Arts Camp looking for their big photos).   We have been snowed under with wrapping up the Iona construction.

I have a few hundred pictures on my computer and I know Taps has a bunch too so the Flickr site will be rockin' as soon as we have a few moments!

Our Last Week

It's hard to believe that the summer has passed so quickly...we have just four days left!  But that's four days to fill to the brim with excitement, wonder and creativity.
We have three camps in this week.  Adventure Camp is continuing after their memorable weekend canoe trip, Intermediate Co-ed is in full swing and M.A.D. Camp for Teens is also here.  M.A.D. Camp is Music, Arts and Dance and this is the first year we have offered that kind of programming for Teens.  The week is going very successfully and our teens are all very talented artists and musicians.  The M.A.D. campers are putting on a show for the rest of camp on Friday and I can't wait to see what they have created!

Dance Party!

Today our teens got to choose their own adventure and go to one of rappelling, throwing blanket, newspaper creation, swim-across-the-lake, dance, kayaking, canoeing, basketball or trampoline.  All of the activities were very fun and will run again for the same groups on Thursday.

Teen Week

It has begun...
Yesterday, 105 Teenagers arrived to Camp ready for a great week.  The theme for the week is the Great Canadian Adventure and already the announcements have featured characters from Tim Horton's and Bob and Doug Mackenzie.  This week is always a great opportunity for us as a staff to effectively minister to a captivated youth audience.  It's also tons of fun, eh.

Our Canoe Trippers

Yesterday morning our valiant Canoe Trippers began their adventure in the Leslie Frost Centre.  They are taking a fabulous route through the Haliburton Highlands Water Trails and we hope they are having lots of fun in this heat.

Goodbyes and Hellos

Today was a busy one!
This morning we said goodbye to our Family Campers.  What a great weekend we had together.  Fabulous weather, lots of fun fellowship and even some astronaut drama.  By the way, Murphy and Gertrude have reconciled and the Shuttle may in fact launch with both aboard.  We thought you'd appreciate the update.  Thank you all for a great weekend...it was an honour to share our home with you.

Three short hours after the Family Camp vehicles rolled out, Junior Co-Ed began in earnest.  We have a full week ahead of us with a camp full of 7, 8 and 9-year olds.  The theme for Juniors is "Old McGlen Mhor had a Farm".  Should be great!
