Dear Families,
As you are now well aware, there has been a very
serious problem with recalled meat products from Maple Leaf Foods;
these products may contain meat contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
On Wednesday, August 20th, we received a telephone call from GFS,
our camp food supplier, to inform us that we had been sold products
listed in this recall. We were told how to immediately dispose of the
products. After speaking directly with a Maple Leaf Products
representative, we were informed that the products being recalled are
dated from June 2nd to October 22nd. Throughout the summer, we served
Sure-Slice Black Forest Ham and Sure-Slice Salami. We have also been
in regular contact with the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit and the
Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
We have been asked today
by the CFIA to advise you that you or your child(ren) may have consumed
the recalled products and should be seen by a physician. This is
especially true if the camper and/or staff member exhibits any of the
following symptoms: high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and
nausea.
As the incubation period is three months, there remains a risk that
some of our campers and staff may still fall ill. For most of our camp
population, this is unlikely as those most at risk are pregnant women,
the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
Please contact our camp office should you have any questions.
