Congratulations Abrigo!

Spenceschool30

A member of our 2007 summer staff, Spencer "Abrigo" Blake and his classmate, Tuan Do, used Cairn as their business for the final project in their Business Leadership Course in Grade 12.  After months of work spent interviewing Topaz, analyzing our website and staff manual and comparing us to other camps in the OCA, their final presentation took place last week.  Topaz was invited to attend to hear what they had to say.  It was an excellent presentation and they received a mark of 94%!

Resource Day 2008

Each week in the summer, after all the campers have gone home, a counsellor meeting is held in the Staff Lounge.  When the counsellors are finished, and it's time for the whole staff to meet, all the counsellors shout REEEESOURCE!!!

Here are the REEEESOURCE applicants for this summer!

We had a great day together on Saturday at Morningside - High Park Presbyterian Church.  There were lots of funny moments, and it was exciting to see so many of our staff members for 2008 in one place.

This photo will also be posted the the Cairn Facebook groups, where we'll try to "tag" everyone.

Presbytery Visit: Eastern Han-Ca

Sanct1

Last night, Match and I were privileged to speak at the Eastern Han-Ca Presbytery Meeting.  The meeting was held at Toronto Korean Presbyterian Church (which is a beautiful building) and was easily the most high-tech Presbytery meeting I've ever seen.  I've never been to a Presbytery meeting (or any Church meeting) where the LCD projector was mounted in the ceiling and the data screen automatically dropped-down.

Over the next few weeks, Topaz and Match and I are going to be speaking at a number of different Presbytery meetings, sharing news about camp and opportunities for involvement.

Registrations! Registrations!

We have been swarmed with registrations over the past few days!  They are coming in faster than we can process them, and we are so thankful!  It's great to see our camps so full again this year.

But we are falling a bit behind.  If you registered for Glen Mhor or Iona in the last few days, your confirmation may take longer than you expect.  Rest assured, we have your registration, and we're working as fast as we can.

We ask for your patience.  By the end of business hours on Tuesday, January 22nd we should be all caught-up.  If you registered before the early-bird date we will make sure you get that rate.

Thank you for your support of camp!  We look forward to serving you in 2008.

Congratulations Leaf!

Andrew "Leaf" Sinclair, a Glen Mhor Alumni, has won a major award from the Canadian Council for the Arts!  Leaf is an Architect, and has won the "Professional Prix de Rome".  This award is given to a young architect who has shown exceptional artistic potential in his/her first completed buildings.

The prize is $50,000 and Leaf can use it to travel around the world to hone his skills and develop his creativity.  Congratulations Leaf!

Happy New Year, Cairn!

To all our families, campers, staff and alumni: Happy New Year!  We hope that 2008 is a year of dreams fulfilled and lives touched.

The next few months bring us closer and closer to the start of camp for another year.  The camp office is back open after a nice holiday break, and we're gearing up for a busy year.

Remember, the early-bird deadline passes on January 15th.  Time to get those registrations in!
